It was also a time for both celebration and reflection. We toasted our writing milestones--from book deals to finished drafts; from finding agents to trying new genres to seeing our first books in print. And we reflected on the year's challenges--what we've learned both through risk-taking or through risks not taken.
But it was more than that, of course, because our lives are worth far more than the sum of our words. We laughed and played games. We made a fire. We made good food. We celebrated new jobs, new babies, new life courses, and most important, the endurance of our friendship.
Moments of pause like this feel necessary. Yet they can be so hard to come by because life has a way of just marching forward, whether we're ready for it or not.
Here at the Highway we wish all our readers the happiest of holidays. Thank you for being a part of our world and for sharing a part of yours. May you find your moments of peace and connection as the transition into the new year settles upon us.
