Unique Book Character Costumes: Creepy! Literary!

It's almost Halloween! Why not dress up as a character from a favorite book? But forget Katniss, Edward and Harry -- there'll be trillions. Here are some literary costume ideas you probably won't run across this October. (Which, in some cases, might be a good thing.)

From Harry Potter: everybody's favorite house elf, Dobby! ...Sort of.

The ball o' wings & eyeballs dragon from the old cover of A Wind in The Door

The BFG.

Procrastinator's The Cat in the Hat!
Hmm. Something's missing.

Dauntless from Divergent.
as modeled by YA Highway

Effie from The Hunger Games.

A nursery rhyme. Like Humpty Dumpty!

Gather up your friends for a gigantic The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird.

The Last Unicorn! So PRETTY.

The Other Mother from Coraline.

Pennywise from Stephen King's It.
I'm sorry.

Daenerys Targaryn from A Song of Ice and Fire.

Or my personal favorite...

Sexy Back Cover of The Giving Tree!

Non book-related, but worth a mention:

Lobster in pot.

The Slender Man.
I'm sorry.

What are you going to be for halloween?

  1. Imagine if someone dressed up as Slender Man and jumped out at you. I would cry.

  2. I really wanted to go as Cersei Lannister, but instead I am going as Anne Boleyn, in her white costume that she wore during the play where she first met Henry in The Tudors. And yep, my hubby is going as Henry:)

  3. Ball o' wings and eyeballs FTW! I only wish I still had an opportunity to dress up for Halloween because I think Effie would be AWESOME to dress up as. How much fun would that be? :)

  4. This post is just so so full of awesome oh my holy

  5. Ah, this is such a good post. I'm really stuck as to what to be for Halloween. It's my first ever 'proper' Halloween as we don't particularly celebrate it at all in New Zealand, and it may just be my last as it's highly unlikely I'll still be living in America next Halloween. So I want an awesome costume, but it needs to be something cheap too! I love Effie, and I really love Dobby as well! So much to consider! *squee*!

  6. GAAHHH! I was Katniss last Halloween, but because the movie wasn't out yet, no one (except for one random girl and a handful of my friends who read the books) recognized me.

I got my costume at Goodwill (jeans, green t-shirt, jacket, boots), braided my hair, borrowed a bow and some arrows from a friend, and had another one of my super artsy friends make me a mockingjay pin and do my fake wounds. I even rolled around in dirt for that fresh-out-of-the-arena look.

Gosh, that was a fun Halloween.

  7. I am crying over Sexy Back Cover of The Giving Tree. CRYING FOREVER. I need to figure out how to be that.

  8. Well... Thank you for apologizing, at least.

*prays nobody dresses as Slender Man*
