Road Trip Wednesday #148: What Fable or Fairytale Would You Retell?

Welcome to our 148th Road Trip Wednesday!

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link - or, if you prefer, you can include your answer in the comments.

(Note for any Road Trip fans on Tumblr: We are also asking all our RTW questions on our YA Highway Tumblr, and you're more than welcome to answer there, or link back to your Tumblr in this post!)

This Week's Topic is: In honor of this month's Bookmobile book, Marissa Meyer's CINDER, name a fable or story you'd like to see a retelling of. If you're feeling creative, come up with a premise of your own!

Road Trip Song of the Week: "A Dustland Fairytale" by The Killers

Next week's topic: What was the best book you read in September?

  3. I'd love a retelling of the ancient Indian classic The Ramayana, perhaps from Sita's POV.

  9. I'm going to start reading CINDER this week! Other than that, I focused more on fairy tale retellings on TV, which I'm a little mixed on:

  21. I cannot disassociate fairy tales from Disney and I absolutely hate Disney. But, I took a stab at it...at least my re-telling of Cinder-fella is a little different.

  27. I've always wanted to retell a fairy tale, but I have the hardest time straying from the story. There's that seemingly impossible task of making it something completely new, while keeping the core of the story in place.

I once tried to do a retelling of Hansel and Gretel in a high school creative writing class. It was pretty bad. Not very clever at all. And although it's not a fairy tale, I would love to retell Swan Lake. I have the twist, it's just a matter of making the story fit my style.
