Welcome to our 143rd Road Trip Wednesday!

| Just know in advance that McKayla is not impressed. |
Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.
We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link - or, if you prefer, you can include your answer in the comments.
This Week's Topic is: In honor of the end of the Olympics, share your favorite sports book!
The Olympic Ceremonies have come to a close, but there are some amazing sports books out there to keep the competitive spirit alive---at least until the next Olympics in 2014! List one or more of your favorites.
Road Trip Song of the Week: "Rocky's Theme" by Billy Conti
Next week's topic: Inspired by Stephanie Perkins' post on Natalie Whipple's blog, what is your novel's "Love List"?

This week's RTW was a real challenge for me, but here's my attempt at an answer. :)
ReplyDeleteI love 'Deadline' by Chris Crutcher. He read an excerpt from this book at SCBWI NY. Even if you don't love sports, you'll love this book.
ReplyDeleteI had to think long and hard to recall a sports books, but there was one I really enjoyed:

Oh, that picture of McKayla still breaks my heart! I blogged about the Olympics yesterday, but couldn't resist sharing one of my all-time favorite sports reads! http://alisonmiller20.blogspot.com/2012/08/rtw-swim-fly.html
ReplyDeleteIn the past year and a half, I've only read ONE sports book. So here it is... a good one though!
ReplyDeletehttp://daydreamertowriter.blogspot.ca/2012/08/sports-books-really.html
My answer I never really thought about how few sports books I read...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see I wasn't the only one who found this a challenge! :) Here's my answer!
ReplyDeleteMine's here!
ReplyDeleteI agree that "Deadline" is a terrific YA book about sports, but my favorite 'sports' book would have to be The Game by Ken Dryden, or Moneyball by Michael Lewis.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? This should be right in my wheel house. I wrote a whole blog today on male-centered YA, and I'm a sports nut, yet I can't think of a single sports-related book I've ever read. (NOT that there can't be girl-centered sports book...just sayin') Well, during elementary school library time I read this book for teens called Tight End. I don't remember much other than a football player going through teen stuff. Not sure. Now I have to look it up. Great. -__- So I got nothing.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm not really into sports, but I liked this sports book: http://thewordsonpaper.blogspot.com/2012/08/rtw-best-sports-book.html
ReplyDeleteHere's mine http://kiwislife.blogspot.com/2012/08/rtw-love-of-game.html
ReplyDelete*Blush* WICKET SEASON, by me of course! You can read about it here. But seriously I kind of dig both the Lorimer sports series that WICKET SEASON is part of, and the Sports books from Orca books, who are publishing my next book (not a sports book!)
ReplyDeleteThis was tough, so I got creative: Favourite Sports Book :D
ReplyDeleteThis was so tough, I feel slightly humiliated. Anyone remember Lurlene McDaniel?

great responses everyone!
It took me ages to figure out what to do for this RTW. So I tried being a bit creative with this one. Here's my answer.
ReplyDeleteOff Balance, by Dominique Moceanu. And Miracle on 49th Street, by Mike Lupica.
ReplyDeleteThe Gracie Faltrain series by Cath Crowley and the Dairy Queen series by Catherine Gilbert Murdock!
ReplyDeleteA hard one, I had to look to my adult reads http://alexabarry.com/
ReplyDeleteA bit late, but I just realized, my absolute favorite sports book is Playing the Enemy (now called Invictus) by John Carlin. The movie was good, but the book dominates it ten times over. And hey, Rugby! There are way too few books about rugby!
