Road Trip Wednesday 132: What Book Conferences Would You Love to Attend?

Welcome to our 132nd Road Trip Wednesday!

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link - or, if you prefer, you can include your answer in the comments.

This Week's Topic:
What book and/or writing conference would you love to go to?

For our Conference Theme Week, we'd love to know which writing, reading, book blogging, or other publishing-related conferences are on your "must attend" list. Here's a great breakdown of some of the main conferences, as well as Phoebe's reminder that other kinds of conferences can totally relate to writing, too!

  1. I've been really contemplating SCBWI in LA this summer, but it is huge investment. Any thoughts? Is it worth it? Should I wait and save up for New York next year?

  2. I am going to SCBWI in LA this year, with the help of a $750 grant I won through our regional chapter. Will still be paying almost that much out of pocket, but that's much more in my reach than the full amount. And the more I look at the faculty and workshops, the more excited I get! This will be my first really big, travel-to-it writing conference (I went to a National Storytelling Conference years ago in Missouri but most writing conferences I've attended have been local or where I could stay with family).

And it will also include my first paid manuscript consultation--I've always been a bit skeptical about whether they're worth it, so I'll be sure to report back one way or the other!

    1. oh that grant is awesome! Yeah, SCBWI is very expensive to go to; that's why I can't go this year :-(

  3. I'd really like to go to YALLfest. It sucks that it is in Novemeber, and I'll be stuck up here in Canada at University.

  4. I want so bad go to SCBWI in LA, but that's not going to happen. Here's what I'm doing instead:

  5. I'd love to attend most of them. They all sound fantastic. Here's my answer.

  6. Here's mine. I kinda cheated though because I also answered the usual last wed. of the month question- best book of the month.

  7. Oh, there are many, but I've narrowed my must attend down to two!

  8. I'd be happy to attend just about any of them, but here’s my answer.

  9. One of my dream conferences no longer exists, but here are a few that do.

  10. There are so many that I just cheated and listed a bunch that are on my MUST-GO list!

  11. My answer:

  12. Here's mine

  13. I'm a little late but here my post, slightly more alternative!

  14. Great question! I'm heading to a regional SCBWI conference in less than two weeks, and have a few others I'd love to attend.

    My answer is here:

  15. Fun topic! I haven't done a RTW for's about time I did! Here's my answer: :)

  16. I have a very short round up on BackSpace
here , but for next year I'm thinking maybe SCWBI or Muse and the Marketplace.

  17. My thoughts here:

  18. I really want to attend YALSA's YA Literature Symposium. Since I don't live anywhere near St. Louis, it's an unlikely one for me... but it sounds so great- librarians, authors, and publishers all coming together to discuss the future of YA lit.
