This month, an awesome contemporary novel was released by Sourcebooks. It features a kick-ass female lead, a slew of hot boys, and football! What more could you ask for, right? The novel is called CATCHING JORDAN, and today we have the author herself, Miranda Kenneally, here to join us!
CATCHING JORDAN centers around a girl playing a male dominated sport (and kicking ass at it!). Did you play any sports in high school? If so, which ones?
I played varsity soccer, and I managed the boys’ soccer team in my off season. The guys on the team were totally out of my league, but they were hot. (Sorry – just had to throw that in there)
CATCHING JORDAN features several super hot, super awesome boys. Can you tell us who your favorite was and why?
My favorite guy is JJ, because he’s simple (he loves his crossword puzzles, video games and eating) and knows what he wants out of life, but he’s fiercely loyal and has a big heart when it counts.
If you could meet Jordan in real life, what advice would you give her? What do you think she'd think of you?
I’d tell her to cut loose once in a while and have some fun, and that people love her for her, so she doesn’t need to worry about putting up fronts.
If we met, Jordan would probably say I’m not serious enough. And that I need to exercise more. She’d also probably laugh at my lack of knowledge about football and the fact that I still have to ask my husband questions from time to time!
If you could play for any sports team, which would it be and why?
This is going to sound ridiculous, but I’d love to be an Olympic marathoner. I’ve run a few races in my life and it’s such a thrill – I just wish I was faster. Or maybe I would want to be on a gymnastics team. The balance beam and floor routine have always interested me. I wish I could do flips and whatnot.
Can you tell us anything about your next book?
My next book comes out in fall 2012, and it’s tentatively called PLAYING PARKER. It’s about a 17-year-old girl who falls for the 23-year-old coach of the baseball team. It’s a companion to CATCHING JORDAN. Then in spring 2013, another companion to PARKER and JORDAN is coming out. It’s called BAD, BAD THING and it’s about a girl named Kate who can’t get over the role she played in helping her best friend to get an abortion. Both books are edgy, but have a lot of fun moments too (kind of like CATCHING JORDAN!). Last but not least, in late 2012, the Dear Teen Me anthology is coming out, and I’m one of its editors.
Thanks for having me! Love the YA Highway. ☺
