The Highway Cafe is Open for Business!

Earlier this winter the yaHighway girls were chatting in Google Groups (what else is new), when the radiant, resplendent, dare I say refulgent Kate Hart announced that she suddenly had the strong need to be with all of us in a cafe, writing and chatting.

I thought that was a pretty awesome idea.

Being a writer can be lonely. We huddle at our cafe tables, laptop open, steaming macchiato at its side, and create conversations and situations that happen to people who exist only in our minds. We open Twitter and Facebook periodically – hell, let's be honest, we rarely close them – to see how the real life peoples are doing. Wouldn't it be great if we really could hang out in a cafe with fellow writers while we worked?

Why can't we?

We can. Twice a month, YA Highway invites you to join us at the Highway Cafe! The Cafe is located in SavorChat (bathrooms are in the back on the right, and be nice to the barista, he's new). We'll be tweeting the link and the password to get in before and during the hang with the hashtag #HighwayCafe, so if you don't follow us on Twitter, please do!

What's the point? To write, to share, to motivate. We'll chat about our current projects, share snippets, share word counts or word count goals – if you're looking for a beta reader, you might even find one here.

Here's the details for our first gathering of caffeinated writerly goodness:

Sunday, February 6th
6pm PST/9pm EST – 8pm PST/11pm EST
We know there's no way to schedule a meeting time that will work for everyone, so the day and time of Highway Cafe hangs will change regularly. If you can't make it this time, we hope you can make it next time!

Steam that latte, grab a mug of green tea, put extra whip cream and sprinkles on that mocha and join us this Sunday at the Cafe for a little company while you write!

  3. I can't wait! This sounds like so much fun.

  4. Awesome idea! Sadly it's the middle of the night in Germany when the Highway Cafe opens its doors... Maybe next time. :D

  5. Don't worry, Susanne- Highwayer Amanda is in Germany too, so we'll definitely have a Europe-friendly time slot sometime soon!

  6. What Kate said. Times for our European friends, times for our friends down under (like YA Highwayer Leila!), times for people who prefer to write in the morning or middle of the day . . . :)

  7. This is a great idea. You guys are geniuses!

  8. This is a great idea! I always get so distracted by checking on "real" people while I'm writing, maybe having other people to write with can change that =)

  9. Yay, how fun! I'm hoping to stay up late for this one, but I do appreciate that you all will change the time for those of us in Europe. You girls rock!

  10. Super mega awesome idea, ladies!

It's official. You won't run out of ways to expand the awesome.

  11. Okay, so I'm in love with this idea. :)

  12. I'm so excited. I think this will be a great way for all of us to get to know each other, and to support anybody who needs it. Like a twice-monthly virtually caffeinated writers' retreat!

  13. I love this idea!

I'll be at a Super Bowl party this time (and I don't even like football!), but I'll be sure to be there for future ones.

  14. Thank you for all you do and everything you provide!!
    You guys are simply fantastic!
