As you might know, YA Highway has been around more than a year, and many of us were chatting even longer. That's quite a while to be close with a group of people you've never met. Oh, some of us have met -- recently Kody tore up NYC with Emilia; Michelle and Kristin Miller hang out all the time in Seattle; and I met Amanda in Germany last year and Kody and Kaitlin at the winter SCBWI conference. But seven of us together -- along with numerous other writer pals from the YA online community -- was a first.
Here are a few photos from SCBWI, and our time frolicking through Westwood, West Hollywood, regular Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

The biggest event at LA SCBWI is the poolside costume gala, held on Saturday night. This year, the theme was Heart & Soul. We spent months scratching our brains for a group costume idea. Considered: the band Heart, different types of shoes (get it? "sole"?). Then we thought of Dia de los Muertos -- the Mexican Day of the Dead -- which, when paired with sacred heart tattoos, really embodies the gala's theme.

So after getting down in a dance circle in front of the entire conference, YA Highway was awarded an honorable mention: $50 for the SCBWI bookstore.
Not the easiest prize to split among seven, so we decided to share it with YOU!
