Road Trip Wednesday #28: Pics That Make Your Fingers Itch

Welcome to our 28th Road Trip Wednesday! Road Trip Wednesday is a "Blog Carnival," where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link in the comments -- or since this week's topic is a short one, you can include your answer in the comments.

This week's topic:

What photos inspire your books?

Whether it's a full ensemble shot of your characters played by the cast of Will and Grace, or the waste-filled landscape shot that inspired your dystopian, we want to see those pics!

Kaitlin: I just picked a few faves, because I may or may not have about thirty related pictures on my computer...

Kate: Over the summer, I got to refresh my hazy memories of trips with my grandparents to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge...

Kirsten: I just love the way setting can step out of the background and interact with characters...

Kristin M: I collected pictures before I'd written a single word of this story, knowing that the tale would be highly setting- and imaged-inspired...

Kristin O: I almost always have pictures to go with my WIPs - pictures of characters, settings, or even paintings that match the mood of the story...

Michelle: I found it by searching for something to represent “insanity"...

Road Trip Song of the Week: Freeze Frame (J. Geils Band)

Next week's topic: If literary characters had Twitter accounts, whose tweets would you follow?

Michelle Schusterman

Michelle writes books for kids, screenplays for a tv/film production company, and music for anyone who'd buy a "groove matters" bumper sticker. She lives in New York City with her husband (and band mate) and their chocolate lab (who is more of a vocalist). She is the author of middle grade series I Heart Band - 2014, and The Kat Sinclair Files - 2015 (both from Grosset).

  1. Looking for pictures for this week's RTW was so inspiring! I'd never thought to compile pictures for/about/related to my WiP before, so this was a great experience.

"Freeze Frame" is an awesome song, and the Kinks' "Picture Book" also got stuck in my head while looking at all the pics!

  2. Definitely, Sarah! :)

    Here's mine.

Love this topic (and next week's)!

  3. Excellent topic! Here's my response:

  4. Eeee, this question makes me happy! Here's mine:

  5. Rachel: couldn't comment on your blog (might be that your template doesn't mesh with the way you have your comments set up, or might just be my computer) but LOVE the picture!
    And everyone else's too :)

  6. I couldn't comment on Rachel's blog either, so I tweeted her about the problem. :)

  7. Darn - ditto, Rachel. But what a cool painting. Makes me want to read more Asimov. :)

  8. I did this a while back, but here's the link to mine. Great idea!

  9. Awesome topic! I'm itching already (in a good way).

    Mine's here:

  10. Love this topic. My blog is crap right now, but I HAD to join in.

  11. What a great topic! I can't wait to look at everyone else's photos.:)

OT question: How do make that a clickable link instead of one that has to be copied and pasted? Anyone know? Thanks!

  12. Jess: You have to add the HTML tags, without the spaces.

    < a href = "http:// www dot your site dot com> WORDS YOU WANT TO LINK < / a >

  13. I almost forgot to post my link. Oops.

    Mine is here.

i am loving looking at everyone's pictures.

  14. Only recently with the series I'm working on. Check it out. It's up.

  15. So I totally missed the bus, but I did just post some of the photos that inspired elements of my dystopian.
