Road Trip Wednesday #24: No Whining Week

Welcome to our 24th Road Trip Wednesday!

Road Trip Wednesday is a "Blog Carnival," where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link in the comments -- or since this week's topic is a short one, you can include your answer in the comments.

This Week's Topic:
Discuss something positive about the publishing industry
This topic is inspired by agent Colleen Lindsay's No Whining Week (#nww on twitter)

Kaitlin: "The people..."
Amanda: "The countless hours of entertainment..."
Kristin: "Not all publishing people are cat people..."
Kate: "Writing is hard. Publishing is hard. Life is hard."
Michelle: "Prepare to roll your eyes, but I'm going there..."

Road Trip Song of the Week:

Next week's topic: What is the best writing advice you've ever received?
Kaitlin Ward

Kaitlin Ward is the author of Bleeding Earth, Adaptive Books 2016, and The Farm, coming 2017 from Scholastic.

  5. It seems like we are all on the same wavelength again this week.

So, for the record: no one here wants to be JK Rowling or Stephenie Meyer and we all think publishing folks are pretty top notch!

    My post is here.

  6. It strikes me as odd that anyone with a passion for something would allow a negative attitude to hold them back, especially when that negative attitude is directed towards the individuals we depend on to help us achieve our goals. I really believe that negative energy taints your work and makes your writing sound bitter, and who wants to read that?

One of my favorite things about the publishing industry is the camaraderie I have recently found on blogs and sites such as this one. I've long lived under the delusion that finding success in the writing world was like winning a battle solo, but I am quickly learning that that is not the case. I stumbled upon one helpful agent's blog a few months ago (http://blog.nathanbransford.com/), and from there, I have found a community of fellow writers, agents and publishers all interested in helping everyone improve their craft and develop quality literature. The support I have suddenly found is stunning, and incredibly inspirational.

  7. What do I love about the publishing industry?

    One word:

    Community.

(And not the TV show, either).
