16-year-old YA Highway contributor Emilia Plater is currently stressing out over the real SATs - but it's all good. For more about Emilia, visit our Who We Are page.
All right, everyone, got your number two pencil? Your calculator? Your sense of impending doom? Well, you can throw those all out the window, because baby, this isn't some wacko standardized test involving lots of math. This is the YASAT. (They're different, I swear.)
Let's break it down. The YASAT measures literacy and writing skills needed for success incollege reading and writing YA novels. Sections include Sexy Love Interests and Whoa Whoa Drama. The YASAT pretty much assesses how well you analyze and solve important problems - skills you'll need while reading or writing YA of all genres and styles.
The best part? All ages can take it! So are you ready? Okay, probably not, but this is just for practice. The test that actually determines your future and whether or not you will ever be happy comes... later. Get ready. GO!

ReplyDeleteWe don't have SATs in Canada. We also don't have diagramming, either. (What's with that weird stuff, anyway?) But then again, we only have two months of summer vacation (three if you're in university), so maybe it all evens out in the end. ;)
Funny stuff, thanks for sharing Emilia.
ReplyDeleteEmilia why are you so awesome?
ReplyDeletethis test is to the SAT as champagne is to water.
ReplyDeleteTotally pocked D for question 5!

Kirsten - thanks so much! Yeah, it's out of 2400 these days. *goes to study*
Great post, Emilia! I just came off of teaching an SAT prep class about two months ago. But I sure do love the YASAT's better! Luckily they only had me teaching the English portion...they would've been outta luck if I'd done anything with the math section!
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK on yours!
Just...you rock, Emilia. Love this post.
ReplyDeleteHilarious! When you take the SAT, you should just imagine that the questions are all about YA literature and you'll pass for sure! :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWaiiiit a second. You're trying to tell me that "Protagonist considers his or her options and realizes he or she isn't really ready for an epic life-changing romance at age 16" is NOT the right answer? THIS SHATTERS MY WORLD.
ReplyDeleteHILARIOUS. I think now I may be ready for the essay portion.
ReplyDelete*wants to adopt Emilia*
