Road Trip Wednesday #9 Who is Your Literary Crush?

Welcome to our ninth Road Trip Wednesday!

Road Trip Wednesday is a "Blog Carnival", where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing or reading-related question and answer it in on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

You're more than welcome to participate! Just answer the question/topic on your own blog, and leave a link to it in the comments.

Topic #9:Who is your literary crush?

Leila Austin: "Admitting them is kind of giving me weird flashbacks . . ."

Kaitlin Ward: "That only makes him better, because it means he's free for me . . ."

Kristin Miller: "It all started with a boy who called a girl Carrots . . ."

Kody Keplinger: "I was 10. He was 11. It worked . . ."

Amanda Hannah: "List would not be complete without 'nerd turned hottie' . . ."

Kirsten Hubbard: "Maybe that's something distinctly YA: the ability to make us crush . . ."

Amanda grew up on a big farm in a small town with one stoplight, one school, and a handful of imaginary friends. She would’ve gone to college forever, but eight years and five majors tested her advisor’s patience. So she moved to Germany to explore creepy castles before landing in Spain where she’s perfecting her Flamenco.

  1. I love this weeks topic. Thought I'd join in on my own blog too:

  2. I answered this question a few weeks ago on my blog, although it ended up taking me three posts. :) Here's the first one.

  3. I love this weeks topic too.

  4. Awesome topic. I blogged:

  5. Gooood topic. I have a lot to say about it :)

  6. So fun. I could talk about lit crush for days.

  7. I got nothin'.

Literary crushes must not be a "guy thing".  The closest I can come is the crush I had as a boy on little Karen from the original animated Frost the Snowman Christmas special. (C'Mon!  She *was* cute!)

My family still lovingly razzes my about it every Christmas.

  8. LOL, John. She WAS cute, with her ginger pigtails (is that the right one?) The scales are definitely weighted in favor of crush-worthy boys, I'm afraid (or, not really afraid, for my sake :D).

Actually, I'm really curious now. Any guys out there who have crushed on a fictional female character? Um, can we leave the impossible physical video game and manga specimens out, though?

  10. Oops-- here's my platonic crushes and it has links to my less innocent ones. :)

  11. I think the reason for the lack of 'boy crushes' is that traditionally "boy" stories are more about action than they are about relationship. Male protagonists predominantly tend to see and respond to what other characters DO whereas female protagonists tend to feel (or at least sympathise with) with what other characters FEEL.

If your story's viewpoint character is able to emotionally relate to other characters in the story, the door is much more open for the reader to become emotionally attached to those characters too.

  12. This question ROCKS! Check out my response here:

  13. This question is too cool! I think I might have liked it too much :) Check out my response here:
