Inspiration on a Saturday morning

It's no secret that we here at yaHighway are rather fond of Melina Marchetta. (If "fond of" is defined as reduced-to-squeeing-fangirl-mess-at-any-mention-of-her-writing.) We love all of her books, even the ones that haven't been released yet.

So of course, we can think of no author or book more deserving of the 2009 Michael L. Printz Award than Ms. Marchetta and Jellicoe Road. Check out her acceptance speech, as well as enlightening thoughts on Slum Dog Millionaire, peer pressure and champagne, the 30 page rule, and the painful schizophrenia that is part of being a writer and examining your own creation.

Haven't read Jellicoe Road yet? We're giving away a copy, along with a sleigh full of other goodies, as part of our One Hundred Followers celebration!
