RTW #6: What do you read?

Welcome to our sixth Road Trip Wednesday!

Road Trip Wednesday is a "Blog Carnival", where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing or reading-related question and answer it in on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

You're more than welcome to participate! Just answer the question/topic on your own blog, and leave a link to it in the comments.

Topic #6: What else do you read, besides YA?

Michelle Schusterman: Ask a geek about books and this is what you get . . .

Leila Austin: To be honest, I've even been known to find the phone book interesting . . .

Amanda Hannah: I read a lot of different books from different genres . . .

Kaitlin Ward: I will read pretty much anything, if it's near me and I've got the time . . .

Kristin Miller: For the love of pete, read outside your comfort zone . . .

Kristin Otts: I guarantee there are doctors and lawyers out there who have stacks of YA thrillers in their closets...

Lee Bross: Truth be told, I rarely read anything but YA . . .

  1. Yeah, I mostly read YA books too.

  2. I mostly read YA because I don't always have a lot of time for reading, and because I want to know what authors in my genre are writing.

I like to read historical fiction, fantasy/urban fantasy/paranormal, and thrillers of the James Rollins persuasion.

  3. I'm a lawyer, and the 22 YA novels on my to-be-read "shelf" are proudly displayed on my living room console table :)

As I work on revisions for my YA novel, I've been trying to read as widely in my genre as possible (and that's how I discovered this blog!).

The last adult books I read were THE BRIEF WONDROUS LIFE OF OSCAR WAO and Tom Perrota's LITTLE CHILDREN back in July. I just bought Lev Grossman's THE MAGICIANS but I'm finishing Christina Meldrum's MADAPPLE and Saundra Mitchell's SHADOWED SUMMER before I start it, and the next adult books on my list are Stephen King's UNDER THE DOME, Perrota's THE ABSTINENCE TEACHER, and Franzen's THE CORRECTIONS.

So many books, so little time.

  4. I read adult sci-fi/fantasy. And picture books (to my kids).

  5. Great question once again--especially since I'm now just "starting" to read YA. Check out my response! :)

  6. So exctied about this question! Check out my response at

  7. I'm glad I read all these posts, because I feel that I must now expand my "will read when done with college" list with everyone's recommendations. Well, not all of them, or my brain might explode. But some of them.

Anyway, this is sort of a loaded question for me.

  8. If you've posted on your blog, I've read and commented. Thanks for answering! Some great recommendations out there!

M, I lovelovelove that you proudly display your books. To heck with people who think lawyers have to be stodgy and serious! You rock!

  9. I posted, though my turned more into a mantra for reading YA lit.

  10. I've posted my response. It turned out a little short; it's funny how hard it is to sum up your reading when asked to! :)

  11. ^Agreed^

You guys rock! Very interesting to hear about what everyone likes. Such a wide variety of tastes.

  12. It's a day late, but it's up.
